Larry Klaff

Senior Managing Director, First Eagle Alternative Credit

Mr. Klaff is a Senior Managing Director and Head of Asset Based Loans (ABL) for First Eagle Alternative Credit. He oversees the sourcing, underwriting and management of ABL. He also serves on the Investment Committee of the firm’s Direct Lending Platform for asset-based loans. Mr. Klaff has over 25 years of alternative investment experience. In July 2020, he joined First Eagle Alternative Credit to launch their Asset Based Lending term loan product. Mr. Klaff has an extensive network of contacts and relationships globally with banks, investment banks, advisory firms and private equity sponsors.

Prior to joining First Eagle Alternative Credit, Mr. Klaff was the Senior Managing Director leading Originations and Underwriting at Gordon Brothers Finance Company (GBFC), a portfolio company of BlackRock Capital Investment Corporation (BKCC), where he was involved in overseeing over a billion dollars of transactions. He also served on GBFC’s Investment Committee over-seeing all investment opportunities. In 2006, Mr. Klaff was the founding member and Managing Director of Gordon Brothers Merchant Partner, LLC a $330M hedge fund. Previously Mr. Klaff was Managing Director of Gordon Brothers, LLC structured loan team. Mr. Klaff joined Gordon Brothers Group in 1996 as a senior associate in the Valuation & Advisory Services Division and was also actively involved in business development and marketing opportunities. Mr. Klaff started his career holding various management roles and financial roles with several major retailers.

Mr. Klaff is currently on the executive committee of Secured Finance Network (“SFN”), formally the Commercial Finance Association. He is a past president and board member of the New England Chapter of SFN. In addition, he served as a board member and past president of the Northeast Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA) and a director of the National TMA. Mr. Klaff earned his M.B.A. from the Kogod School of Business at American University and his B.A. from Hobart College.
