Andrew Burgess

Senior Vice President, Business Development Officer, Marquette Business Credit

40 Under 40 Category: Business Development

Biography:

Andrew Burgess is a native Texan. Born in Dallas, Burgess grew up in the Dallas suburb of Richardson.  After high school, he ventured out of Texas to attend the University of Rochester in upstate New York where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics, and then moved to Boston for a year to work at Investor’s Bank and Trust.  Andrew found his way back to Dallas in 2006 when he began work at Marquette Business Credit.  He also earned his MBA from the University of Texas at Austin in 2009, while working full time at Marquette. Currently, Burgess and his family have settled down in Dallas, where he and his wife, Candice, are raising their two young boys, Jackson (3) and Kaden (1).

Andrew was initially hired by Marquette as a field examiner in February 2006.   In July 2007, he moved to the credit side as an underwriter, where he quickly found his footing and then, six months later, was given his own portfolio of clients to manage, in addition to the new business underwriting duties.  In February of 2011, he earned another promotion, becoming an assistant vice president.  By March of 2012, he earned yet another promotion to vice president/underwriter/loan officer.

Andrew was excelling at his job, but was eager to continue exploring his potential.   One year later, in 2013, Andrew moved to a business development role when he was promoted to vice president/business development officer, and began to explore his marketing abilities.   In his first year in the role, Andrew won Marquette’s Top Producer Award and was again awarded the Top Producer award the following year in 2014, this time accounting for well over a quarter of Marquette’s new business commitments.   In 2015, Andrew proudly earned yet another promotion as he became Marquette’s then-newest senior vice president/business development officer.  By the end of 2015, Andrew shattered his previous totals in new business commitments for the year.  Once again, even with a relatively new network of contacts, he was able to close over a quarter of Marquette’s total commitments for the year.

When informed he had been chosen as one of SFNet's 40 Under 40, Andrew said, “I am honored to have received this award, but could not have done it alone.  For the past 10 years, my mentors and colleagues here at Marquette have given me opportunity after opportunity to learn and succeed.  This award speaks to their knowledge and dedication to making our team successful, as much as it does to mine.”

Ron Vanek, president of Marquette Business Credit, who nominated Andrew, said, “On top of being an individual success, Andrew shares that success with the entire team.   Time and time again, we see Andrew leading by example, showing some of our more seasoned officers what is effective in the current marketplace, what strategies are being well received.  His confident, yet polite, approach serves him well in this area as he helps others to gain their traction while still keeping up his own.”
