John N. McDevitt has over 16 years of experience in asset-based lending.  In 2014, John joined BNP Paribas as an underwriter to help build-out the asset-based lending product and grow the bank’s ABL platform.  He is involved in the structuring, underwriting and execution of large and mid-cap ABL facilities to both corporate and sponsor clients across various industries.

Credit-trained at GE Capital, John completed field exams of over 100 ABL borrowers and managed examiner teams. Holding positions in structuring, underwriting and portfolio management at various institutions, including GE Capital and HSBC, he successfully closed over $3Bn in allocations across 60+ transactions.  During his career, John has covered a broad spectrum of ABL and leveraged loan structures, including negative cash flow companies, distressed debt, DIP and POR lines, middle-market, bi-lateral and large syndicated facilities.

John’s dedication and true appreciation for the ABL industry is demonstrated not only through his daily activities, but also through his continuous industry research, volunteering and mentoring.  John is currently the event chair for the SFNet NY Chapter, regularly attends the SFNet Annual Conference, and frequently participates in SFNet, LSTA and other industry and educational events.

When informed he was one of the SFNet 40 Under 40 recipients, John replied,

“I am humbled to have been nominated by Guelay Mese, honored to be selected by this distinguished panel and thankful to the SFNet for its sponsorship. I was fortunate to start my career in operations and progress to field examination and finally underwriting/portfolio management.  That path ensured the customer interaction, involvement and understanding which are the foundation to the ABL product. The ABL industry is focused on education and my mentors and bosses have always encouraged me to continue growing and learning.  This award inspires me to continue the tradition of giving back.”

His nominator Guelay Mese, Director, head of asset-based lending, BNP Paribas, said,

“John’s early experiences as a field examiner provided him with a solid foundation that shaped his career.  His strong knowledge and true appreciation for the ABL industry is demonstrated not only in his daily work, but also through his continuous industry research, volunteering and mentoring.  John has been a great part of our team and I am proud that he has received this award, which recognizes his dedication and contributions to our industry.”
