Justin Mills
Vice President, People's United Business Capital
40 Under 40 Category: Portfolio Management
Biography:
As a member of the Relationship Management team at People’s United Business Capital, Justin has demonstrated leadership and professionalism in managing a full portfolio of middle-market asset-based clients. Justin joined People’s predecessor business, Danvers Bank, in 2009 as an assistant vice president. He was promoted to vice president in 2011 due to superior performance in providing solutions to clients in a variety of situations- refinancing, restructures, acquisitions, and turnarounds. Justin takes pride in being a trusted advisor to his clients, and has maintained 100% retention of his portfolio despite fierce competition in the market.
Justin is the first to volunteer for projects in the business, in addition to managing a full portfolio. He runs People’s cross-sell initiative --- a key goal at PUB --- for the entire Relationship Management team. He assisted in constructing staffing models, and is readily available to meet any bank request. Mike Maiorino, president of People’s United Business Capital, said about Justin: “Justin is a young man who has continuously displayed exceptionally strong leadership qualities and has selflessly shared his technical skills with less experienced team members and they look up to him. Maybe more importantly, his nature also is manifested in his involvement and allocation of time with charitable projects outside of the office. We are quite proud that Justin is a key part of our team and our future.”
Justin serves on the Board of the New England Chapter of SFNet, as a member and as treasurer. He also serves on the Golf Sub-Committee of the New England Turnaround Management Association, which benefits the Ron Burton Training Village, a summer camp for inner-city challenged youths.
Justin has 10 years of experience in finance, primarily in the middle market. Prior to launching his career, Justin graduated cum laude from Merrimack College in North Andover, MA, with a Bachelor of Science degree in finance. Justin played Division 1 hockey for Merrimack, and became captain in his senior year.
In addition to Justin’s many accomplishments, he is a volunteer at the Lazarus House, a non-profit emergency shelter and food pantry in Lawrence, MA, and is a volunteer at Reality Check, a group promoting financial literacy to high schools seniors.
Justin lives in North Reading, MA with his wife, Sara, and his daughter, Kiernan.
When he was informed he had been chosen as one of SFNet’s 40 Under 40, Justin said, “Being honored by the SFNet as a Top 40 under 40 means a great deal to me and is a tremendous honor. I was introduced to the lending industry during an internship my junior year and immediately knew this was the industry for me. I truly enjoy what I do, specifically I enjoy learning about businesses, how they work and compete in different industries. Growing up in a family business has provided me with a great perspective of how intricate businesses can be and what makes them operate successfully.”
