A Copyright is a form of intellectual property protection. Under U.S. law, copyright protection is available for original works of authorship that are fixed in a tangible form. Categories of works that may be protected by U.S. copyright law include literary, dramatic, musical, and artistic works.
The main policy goal underlying copyright law is to protect the time, effort, and creativity of the work's creator. Relatedly, the work's creator is able to monetize such inputs by transferring or licensing its exclusive rights to others in exchange for compensation.
