Interview with Savi Hussain, Member of SFNet’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusiveness Committee

Savitri Ramjohn Hussain (Savi) migrated from Guyana, South America in 1984. She is a mom of four children and has three amazing grandkids. Savi Hussain serves as the head of underwriting and senior VP at Iron Horse Credit. She comes with a wealth of industry knowledge and 25 years of experience in asset-based lending including accounts receivable finance, inventory finance, purchase order finance and supply chain finance.
Prior to joining Iron Horse Credit, Hussain was SVP of Underwriting for Global Merchant Fund (now eCapital), and prior to eCapital she served as head of credit for Expo Credit. Prior to Expo Credit, she held positions of relationship manager for First Capital and portfolio manager for Crossroads. Hussain is attending Magna Institute in New York and holds a degree in business administration and computer science.
She enjoys traveling and has visited Morocco, Mexico, Canada, and the Caribbean Islands. She also enjoys bike riding and taking walks and loves cooking and trying new food delicacies.
Savi is involved with the Florida Hindu Society, which is a non-profit organization in South Florida dedicated to embracing the Hindu-American community.
Please provide a bit of background, including how you got into the industry and your current role.
I started my career in the garment industry and quickly learned about factoring as the company I worked for at the time (Brittania Mills) was a client of Rosenthal & Rosenthal. I was also responsible for production where I was always in communication with the suppliers and their banks (i.e., Heller Financial, Bank Republic, Bank Boston, etc.) to get vendor credit established. Fast forward to 1994, I moved to Florida from New York and stayed in the factoring industry, worked hard, and made my way up the ladder. I attended several vigorous credit training classes and have enjoyed the credit side of lending. I am currently SVP of underwriting and credit for Iron Horse Credit.
What do you think the industry can do to increase diversity, equity and inclusiveness?
Continue to train, teach and encourage the new generation since we are an industry niche.
