Partnership Positions Full-Service IP Consulting Firm to Support Next Chapter of Growth Via Investment in Additional Services and Global Geographic Expansion
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--VSS Capital Partners (“VSS”), a private investment firm investing in the healthcare, education, and business services industries, today announced the completion of a new platform investment in Lumenci, Inc. (“Lumenci” or “the Company”), a full-service intellectual property (“IP”) consulting firm, in association with Century Equity Partners, a Boston-based private equity firm. Financial terms of the private transaction were not disclosed.
Headquartered in Austin, Texas, Lumenci provides a global one stop, turnkey solution for patent owners and law firms looking to monetize IP assets. Lumenci offers litigation support and IP monetization services, enabled by deep technical expertise and knowledge of the broader IP landscape. Founded in 2018, the Company employs more than 100 technical, valuation and damages experts from offices in Austin, Texas; New York; the San Francisco Bay Area; and, New Delhi area, India.
“Lumenci understands how to support clients through the host of challenges that arise with patent monetization campaigns, and knows what it takes to create value for law firms, OEMs and other firms involved in IP litigation,” said Patrick Turner, Partner and Senior Managing Director at VSS. “Founders Harish, Kalyan and their talented team have done an excellent job building Lumenci’s innovative and differentiated platform and we’re delighted to partner with them in their next chapter. Lumenci offers a truly unique solution in what we believe is a fragmented and underserved market,” added Michael Gebhardt, Principal at VSS.
“We’re thrilled to partner with VSS and Century Equity Partners and with their support, we intend to bring our expanding suite of services to a broader set of clients,” said Harish Daiya, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Lumenci. “Our new investors share our conviction that Lumenci’s strong client focus and plans to expand our services and geographic reach will enable us to create value for our customers, employees, and shareholders,” added Kalyan Banerjee, Co-Founder and Chief Growth Officer of Lumenci.
Lumenci’s team of Patent Monetization Strategists, Due Diligence Technologists, and Litigation Discovery Experts have analyzed over 70,000 patents, managed more than 300 litigative processes and helped secure over $3 billion in IP-related settlements, verdicts and cost savings initiatives on behalf of law firms, large technology companies, technology startups and patent portfolio holder clients.
Within the broader multi-billion dollar outsourced legal services market, demand for services in connection with IP monetization and litigation continues to rise, buoyed by the proliferation of advanced technologies, the burgeoning litigation finance market, and a growing willingness of law firms to outsource non-core activities.
As part of the transaction with Lumenci, VSS’s Turner and Gebhardt will join Lumenci’s board.
Clearsight Advisors Inc. served as financial advisor to Lumenci and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP served as legal counsel, while Proskauer Rose provided counsel to VSS.
