NEW YORK—January 6, 2025—O’Melveny announced today that experienced capital markets lawyer David Ni has rejoined the firm’s New York office as a partner in the Capital Markets Practice Group. His arrival bolsters the team’s East Coast capabilities and expands its nationwide roster of top-tier transactional advisors.
For more than 15 years, Ni has represented issuers and underwriters in initial public offerings and follow-on equity offerings. He also advises on offerings of investment-grade and high-yield debt and convertible notes, as well as PIPEs, private placements, and hybrid securities transactions. Additionally, Ni guides private equity sponsors through secondary offerings, serves as securities counsel for bond offerings, and acts as standby underwriters’ counsel for numerous public companies.
Recognized as an emerging leader in the capital markets arena, Ni has been named a “rising star” by IFLR 1000. His work spans a range of industries that align with O’Melveny’s strengths, including financial services, media, energy, technology, and life sciences.
Ni, who earlier in his career worked as an O’Melveny counsel and in 2018 advanced to partner in the firm’s New York office, is returning to O’Melveny from Sidley Austin, where he was a member of that firm’s Capital Markets Group and co-leader of the SPACs Group. His return to O’Melveny accelerates the firm’s continued strategic growth. With his arrival, 26 lateral partners have joined the firm since 2023, including 17 corporate partners based in the firm’s New York, Los Angeles, Century City, Dallas, Houston, Singapore, and London offices.
“We are delighted to welcome David back home to O’Melveny,” said O’Melveny chair Bradley J. Butwin. “He is a strong and agile deal lawyer fluent in both equity and debt capital markets transactions. As market conditions improve, our clients have a growing need for sophisticated capital markets counsel—and David’s extensive skillset will be an immediate asset to them. It is a pleasure to welcome him to our firm once again.”
“This is truly a homecoming for me. My years at O’Melveny were the most enjoyable of my career, and I’m excited to reunite with my friends and former colleagues,” said Ni. “O’Melveny has an unparalleled global platform, a distinctive collaborative culture, and a commitment to excellence in every regard. I’m thrilled to return to the firm’s Capital Markets team and to provide my clients with all of the industry-leading benefits that O’Melveny has to offer.”
Ni earned his J.D. and B.Sc from the University of Toronto.
